What Causes Excessive Weight Gain And Swelling In The Neck?

My daughter is 26 years old and weighs a bit more than she has in the past. What has me concerned is the disproportionate size of her neck...she had basic thyroid tests done which came back negative. My doctor indicated a more extensive battery of tests may show more in terms of her thyroid. A friend mentioned goiter and does so after seeing a picture of her. What are your thoughts/recommendations?
