What Causes Excessive Weight Gain While Having Hashimoto S Disease?
I have hashimoto and have been to a Endocrineologist and a MD. I am on levothroxine 88 mcg and am still tired, can t loose weight. I can t take metabolism inhancers that my personal trainer has suggested. I just looked at a list of foods that are bad for me and spinach, broccoli are on the list. I need some guidance on nutrition. I found a Dr. In New York that his patients are on zinc,selenium... I shouldn t have to go to the web for advice. That s what my Dr is for but he doesn t know any nutritionist if your not pregnant!
Hashimoto thyroidits causes reduced thyroid function and it is very common for patients to gain weight. First of all you need to make sure the dose of Levothyroxine the the right one for you. You will need to have a TSH test and make sure it is 0.5-5 (the normal range). If TSH is above 5 then very likely this is the reason you have it difficult to loose weight.
As for the food you should consume, it is important to take fruit and vegetables daily and avoiding greasy food or fast food, avoid pasta and bread as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
