Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Excessive Weight Gain While On Metropolol?
I was diagnosed with Afib 2 years ago. I have been taking Metropolol 50 mg. twice a day. Since taking this med I have gained 25 pounds. I have never been overweight. I m constantly tired and in a fog. I have also been diagnosed with hypertension. Doctors don t believe me when I say my weight gain is due to this drug. I m 57, active and watch my calorie intake.
Metoprolol can cause weight gain. Weight gain is documented a side effect of metoprolol.
So in my opinion, you should ask for another drug for atrial fibrillation. Once you stop Metoprolol, you will start reducing weight and you will be able to achieve a normal weight.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar,
