What Causes Excessive Weight Loss Along With Chest Discomfort And Appetite Loss?

Hi. My son is 29 years old. He has lost about 15 lbs in a few weeks, has chest discomfort, loss of appetite, fatigue. He was on his lunch break and said he had to catch his breath just sitting there. He is married and for my son to text me from his employment, I believe something is wrong, my son doesn t call or text me when he is working.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I would like to give some tests for your son:

1. HRCT of lung
2. Spirometry
3. Liver function test (should do prior to the required treatment)
4. Blood Routine Test

I would also advise you to do:

1. Physical exercises to improve your endurance.
2. Practice breathing techniques that may improve lung efficiency.

If possible, a physical examination by a doc is also suggested. After the results, please post another question with the results. Do not worry and do not delay the tests.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
