What Causes Excessive Weight Loss And Abnormal Gait?

My son is 45 years old. He is in prison in Tennessee. He is 6 6 tall. When he went to jail two years ago, he weighed over 225 lbs. He now weighs 170 lbs. He has developed an unusual gait in his right leg. He walks like someone with multiple sclerosis. The prison doctor is not helping. He at first told him he had a low B-12 vitamin problem. Now the doctor is saying he may need to do an MRI, but so far nothing is being done to help him. He is also having problems focusing his eyes. Any suggestions as to what needs to be done?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The excess weight loss and abnormal gait seem to be in relation to low levels of nutrients (due to a type of foods provided in jail), spine issues from labor work or else.

He needs to get an evaluation with basic lab tests and x-ray for further management at a hospital (you can ask a referral letter from jail doctor for the same).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel
