What Causes Excessive Weight Loss With Gain In Height?
Hi doctors, my 17 year old nephew has been healthy his whole life but recently has gone through some major body changes. He was up to 260 lbs as soon as Feb of this year and is now at 180 lbs. He was also 6 2 until recently and is now 6 3 . During his weight loss he had no appetite but has recently began eating well again. He has occasionally had a bloody nose but the most worrisome issue is the weight loss. He just went to his primary Physician and had a thyroid test and blood work which was all normal. My question is; could this just be a growth spurt? thx
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concern. The growth spurt in boy comes late from age14 to 17. in the case of your nephew it is a bit more late at 18 years. He might had lost weight due to less calories as he has lost his taste for food and the greater demand. It's a good sign that he regain the taste. Hope he will regain his weight also if not otherwise. You should do blood tests like blood sugar, TSH etc if he does not recover.
