Hello and Welcome to Ask A Doctor. I have read your query and here is my advice. Conditions other than eating disorders that cause weight loss include: -urinary tract infection -kidney failure -tuberculosis -diabetes mellitus(high blood sugar) -diabetes insipidus(increased urine production) -asthma -partial lung collapse -persistent diarrhea -drugs -malignant disease -malabsorption(such as celiac disease) -self-induced vomiting -strenuous exercise(menstruation ceases) -secret dieting -laxative abuse -not eating meal that she cooked
If your daughter loses too much weight her heart rate can drop below sixty and she will develop fine, soft hair on her body. She may receive help from an adolescent psychiatrist. I hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help. Arnold Zedd, MD, FAAP
