What Causes Excessively Watery Eyes During Menopause?
Hi.I am a 56 year old women. I am in the middle of menopause. It seems like when I started menopause in my middle 40 s I have had a problem with my eyes watering. It started out only occasionally, now it is 24/7. Both eyes, but the right one is much worse. I have had mild allergies all my life and never had this problem. It is not my allergies because it happens even when allergies are not bothering me. My eye doctor has sent me to two specialists. One had me wash my eyelids 3 times a day for almost a year - it did not help. He gave me at least 4 different kinds of eye drops. No help. He unblocked my tear ducts, that did not help. He finally told me I would have to live with it! The other specialist did some tests and could not find anything wrong. Even my regular care doctor can not understand it. He gave me some eye drops also with no help. I have already had my cateracts removed about 6 years ago. Please tell me what is wrong with my eyes and what can I do to relieve this irrating condition. Is it possible it could have something to do with menapause???? My GYN says no. UGGG!!!! Thank You Sandra Suttles
Watering eyes have exclusively to be concern of atmospheric exposure to pollen, allergen or other sensitive agent. Protective eye wear and sunglasses, avoidance of exposure to possible dusty wind or weather is only of concern in prevention of the episode. In acute case, anti histamine as loratidine and steroid shots or tablets as per the need of the clinical condition may help to alleviate the severity to some extent.
