What Causes Excruciating Pain In Right Mid-lateral Thigh?

I woke up with an excruciating pain in my right mid-lateral thigh and it has continued to be intermittent- painful- throbbing - excruciating at times. no redness, swelling etc so I don t think it is a DVT....it comes and goes and throbs. There is a bruise from Wednesday sailing...but nothing until today.
