What Causes Exertion Headaches After Alcohol Intake?

Hi, I have been getting chronic exertion induced headaches (from masturbation, sex, even exercise) for almost week now following a night of moderately heavy drinking (chugged a bottle of beer within a minute). I didn t know a hangover could last this long. My eyes have also become more and more sensitive to light. I took Advil (Ibuprofen) for two days, and started taking Excedrin yesterday.

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it is less likely to be the hangover but thiamine deficiency as well as other vitamin deficiencies should be ruled out as alcohol may interfere with absorption of many.

Also lover function tests and renal function tests may be needed if problems persist to rule out metabolic causes. Rarely contamination of the beverage with methyl alcohol may cause eye signs so must be ruled out after follow up with your primary care physician if issue persists.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
