What Causes Extreme Chills Followed By Shivering?

About 3 hours ago, I had a sudden onset of extreme chills and shivering. I was shivering so hard, I could hardly brush my teeth. I took 3 Ibuprofen, and my husband covered me with several blankets and put a heating pad on my feet. Finally I stopped shivering and warmed up, but still have aches in my neck and shoulders.

Hi there..

Thanks for writing in ...

It could be the onset of an infection in the body..probably viral fever. A tablet of paracetamol three times a day for 2 days might help. Most viral fever last for 2 -3 days . If it persists beyond that you need to visit a doctor for other investigations/ antibiotics .

Get some rest and keep yourself rehydrated by drinking plenty of warm fluids.

Hope you feel better soon...

Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
