What Causes Extreme Dryness On The Face?

Hi there. I have a problem with the skin on my face. I bought and used an at home face tanning machine for 5 days, 30 mins at a time. My face didnt feel burnt, I ve had a burn from a tanning salon before, but my face started reacting to something so I stopped using it thinking it was the tanner. That was three weeks ago. My skin can no longer retain or produce any moisture so it s extremely dry, tight and sometimes puffy. The first two weeks my eyes were almost swollen shut every morning and my skin was itchy. I went to the dr and he said I had some kind of reaction and maybe burnt my skin. He prescribed me 1% hydracortazone cream to use once a day for no longer than 7 days and claratine twice daily to see if it was an allergy. Also, glaxal base moisturizer. The swelling went down and my face is no longer itchy but it s still extremely dry and tight and a bit swollen. I did some research and found that maybe my skin needed Urea to fix the water binding molecules in my skin. So I called my pharmacist and picked up Uremol 20%. It s suoposd to penetrate the 7 layers of the skin and help water retention. I ve been using that for 3 days along with the glaxal base, drinking lots of water and still nothing. I realize maybe the Uremol takes longer to work but im wondering what else I can do? I put on moisturizer like 10 times a day and within 5 minutes or so it s dry and tight again :( Please please help :(

You seem to have suffered from the excessive radiation that was delivered by the tanning machine, may be it was an overdosage.
Please refrain from using urea creams on the face and instead use frequent face washes with plain water followed by liberal use of moisturizers. at night, you may like to use hydrocortisone cream but that should be tapered off gradually either by reducing frequency of application or by diluting the same with cold cream. Anti allergics by mouth will surely help. Please also avoid sun exposure to speed up your recovery. If it does not seem to work then you need to visit your doctor again who might prescribe steroidal creams for you that are more potent than the one that you used in the past.
