What Causes Extreme Elevation In BP Levels?

Good evening Dr., for the last 3 (that I know of) weeks my blood has been runing high systolic from 140 - 163 and diastolic from 90 -111. I have a to see my primary care on 1/4/17. I was told to keep an eye on it and watch out for shortness of breath, chest pain, tingling... I have not experience any of those symptoms but I am kind of freaking out about BP being so high with not way of bringing it down. Should I go to an urgent care center or the ED to try and get a prescription?

Hi,

Though certain of the readings of your BP is high. However, none of it is an emergency. You don't need to got no ER for it until shortness of breath which is unlikely with this BP.

The best strategy would be to take a few readings at the different time of the day and see your GP. He would run few test and if your BP was high he would prescribe you the appropriate drug.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
