7 year old always complains of having tired legs. She doesn t ever want to exercise. I am not sure if it is an excuse or if there is something wrong. She will ride her bike about two houses and then have to stop and rest. Same thing at the mall when walking, or walking anywhere. She always wants to stop and rest. She has 0 energy. Help?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there,
Prolonged tiredness or fatigue in a child may be an indication of anemia. This means her blood does not have enough oxygen carrying capacity and that is why she always feels tired. You need to get a simple blood test done which includes a Hb, Rbc count, MCH and a peripheral smear. Once there is evidence of anemia we can start her on iron tablets and protein rich diet.

Hope this helps,
Please feel free to address any further queries that you have to me,
