Your friend has a history of a thyroid problem. Yes, hypothyroidism does cause tiredness & fatigue. It is because of the drop of the thyroid hormone production that leads to low energy levels.
Get physically examined & treated for hypothyroidism, get TSH tests done. Change your diet, avoid addictions if any.
Do regular exercises, maintain weight. Take food rich in iron, cashew nuts, beans, lentils, whole grain, etc. Stay away from stress, anxiety & tensions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
