What Causes Extreme Sensitivity To Certain Smells While Having Parkinson S?

I have developed a sensitivity to certain smells, such as aerosol sprays , especially cleaning products and air fresheners. (Pledge and Fabreeze are especially bad). I get short of breath with a headache. Other people don t smell these as I do. I find this odd since I have Parkinson s and many PD people lose their sense of smell. Could there be something else going on?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The sensitivity to smell is often a complaint by patients suffering from Parkinson's disease.

This develops in the olfactory bulb, the part of the brain that controls the sense of smell. It may also develop in the gut. However, it is still in a research study.

Get physically examined, assessed & treated for Parkinson's disease.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
