What Causes Extreme Sensitivity To Sound?

Hi... I m a professional musician + DJ, and lately my ears are VERY sensitive to sound/noise... I wear musician earplugs, but fear the cause may be due to studio headphones (which I ve recently found out are very dangerous)... Should I go see a Doctor? Ear Specialist? Stop listening to loud music for a long time? Any help would be appreciated...

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of extreme sensitivity to sound which is because of ear infection which sometimes remain persistent and leads to recurrent otitis media and sound sensitivity. You should do warm dry compresses to external ear. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may examine by otoscopic means to check level of infection. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics (amoxicillin or penicillin) at least for 10 days along with decongestant and anti inflammatory medications.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
