What Causes Extreme Sugar Cravings At Night?

I have very strong sugar cravings, usually at bedtime. I m not diabetic. I have mild HTN and hypothyroidism. My usual diet intake is vanilla greek yogurt with almonds, daily salads with many veggies, turkey, chicken or salmon. I like oatmeal, quinoa and fruits such as oranges, berries, watermelon, cantelope and tomatoes. I researched and followed an anti inflammatory diet for about 5 weeks and started to feel good with much less abdominal bloating. I have much abdominal fat and that scares me. I wish I could get rid of these sugar cravings, usually in the form of ice cream. I m active, but on and off with the gym.

Hello,

There are different reasons for this. Even though you are not diabetic I would suggest you get your fasting, random as well as postprandial blood sugar levels checked.

If the reports come normal all is good. If there is increase in it then you should see a doctor. Other reasons for sugar craving can be the diet you are having, you can see a dietician and get an appropriate diet plan. This can help to reduce sugar cravings.

As you mentioned about the gym, a dietician should be the one suggesting you appropriate diet plan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
