What Causes Extreme Swelling And Inflammation In The Legs?

I have had extreme swelling in both my legs and feet with red and hot skin in the area. I have also been having numbness and tinglingL in my left hand. the other day I did have some slight tingling in my left side of my face for just a short while........... well I am very much in awe at the fact that I did all this shit and get to the end only to find out its all about the MONEY,..... No surprise there... I was in hopes that this was a true answer your question web site, as I am concerned about what is going on with my legs and the issues I have been having, but you have made it quite clear that your concern is only about how much money you can make. what don t make enough at the office or hospital, what ever your specialty is. what ever happened to the Hippocratic oath gone with the humanity I suppose. this should make your mother proud. Oh, one last question. just wondering how much is my question valued at, I feel it was just a simple question, shouldn t be much. But when dealing with simple people, the cost of a question apparently has more monetary value to you, then the fact that your a Doctor (maybe) and your oath to turn no patient away is the one thing that has no value to it at all. so now you have yourself a night of sharing and laughter with the other Doctors (maybe) that as you have no morals.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Well, there are several possible causes. This may be a beginning of leg cellulitis which is inflammation of subcutaneous tissues and may develop into diabetic foot or even diabetic gangrene so any swelling, redness or pain in legs in someone who has diabetes should be evaluated by medical professionals since antibiotics may have to be started as soon as possible to prevent spreading of infection.

He should do at least basic blood tests and blood sugar to see if there is a significant infection or not. Other causes include deep vein thrombosis or lymphedema and these should be checked with an ultrasound exam.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
