What Causes Extreme Tiredness And Cough After Surviving A Stroke?

My husband is 66. He had a stroke 3-1/2 years ago. Lately, he coughs & says I just swallowed wrong . He is also extremely tired. He is also working with a doctor, because of a bad back. I suggested that he sees his doctor, but he won t go. Should I be concerned about the coughing & extreme tiredness?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The most common causes for persistent coughing are post nasal drip, gastroesophageal reflux and asthma.

There are other causes but these are the most common.

Some persons have a combination of different conditions.

Of these conditions, post nasal drip is most common of the three.

Allergies are the most common reason for post nasal drip and there are some persons who may be unaware of the drip itself.

Any chronic illness can cause fatigue

Treatment involves: (A) avoiding allergens if known
(b)the use of anti histamine and decongestant eg benadryl d, claritine d, allegra d
(c)topical steroid nasal spray eg nasonex, nasocort, flonase, rhinocort

I hope this helps
