What Causes Extreme Tiredness In Legs While On Medications For Heart Failure?

I m 58 years old, male, went into the hospital because of trouble breathing. Told I have Congested Heart Failure, High Blood Pressure and Diabetes. Have been on a lot of medication for last 6 months. But within last several weeks I ve had an unbelievable tiredness in the legs. I m talking I can walkout to the mailbox, but coming back I can barely get into the house and make to the chair without collapsing. Now there s another problem one of my testicles has enlarged to the size of a billiard ball. Now it doesn t hurt or anything that s probably why I ve never mentioned to the Doctors when I was in the Hospital. I can t figure out why I m so exhausted like I just ran a Marathon with the legs always ready to give out. I don t know if the enlarged testicles are related or just a side effect for the pills that I m taking?? Thank you!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Causes of your difficulties may be neuropathy or ischemic issues. Neuropathic are seen in diabetics or injury of spine nerves.

If this is not your case then these symptoms are indicating circulatory problems in legs which are common in this age and there may be present atherosclerosis that obstructs blood vessels and causes pain and blisters to form.

You should do Doppler ultrasound of the leg or CT angiography to rule out such obstructive changes and then it can be treated properly by medications or by surgical and radiological procedures. Also, you should have Aspirine and have elastic stockings applied, and should avoid cold environment and long walks.

In most cases, it can be managed with medications but sometimes surgery may be required in severe cases.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
