What Causes Eye Redness When Diagnosed With Keratoconus?

My daughter has been diagnosed with Kerataconus at 17 yrs old. She has had 5 different prescriptions since October 2015 and is currently wearing GP lenses. She suffers with cloudy eyes every day and her eyes are bloodshot after a day a school. She still reports that she has stacked vision (seeing things stacked on top of each other) and cannot distinguish between E, F, B and D on the eye charts. What should our next step be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As there are only redness and no pain this is likely to be what is known as a subconjunctival hemorrhage.

This occurs due to rupture of blood vessels which occurs due to the sudden rise of pressure due to cough, constipation or straining or due to intake of drugs like aspirin.

This resolves on its own in a week or 10 days time and as such is not a cause of worry. Please do get back to me in case of any further query in this regard.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
