What Causes Fainting After Consuming Alcohol?

Hi, On a night out last weekend, I had drank about 3 glasses of wine. I had been dancing with a friend and decided I needed to to the ladies so returned to the bar and finished my drink then walked the short distance to the ladies. After that I remember nothing at all, my sister found me collapsed in the ladies toilets 30 minutes later and although I was conscious I was unable to stand up or function at all. I had to be bodily carried to a taxi and taken home. I have total amnesia of about 4 hours and woke up the next day in bed having been put there by my sister and her friend. I have had diarrhea since then and although I did not vomit that night my sister tells me I was constantly wrenching for a couple of hours. Am I right to think my drink had been spiked?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is common for people that have had alcoholic drinks to faint and loose consciousness and also have amnesia of the episode. This can happen from the effect of the alcohol in the brain and also effects in the sugar levels (causes low sugar levels) and also dilation of the blood vessels causing low blood pressure that might effect the brain and also favor fainting and loss of consciousness.
Addition of other chemicals that affect thinking might make the situation worse and add to these effects of alcohol but alcohol itself can cause the symptoms you are explaining so it is difficult to know if your drink was spiked or not.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
