What Causes Fainting And Rise In Heart Rate During Sleep After Drawing Blood?

I fainted after a blood test and hit my head on the floor. No bones were broken and apparently there was no damage. I,ve been unable to sleep for the last 2 nights at all - every time I try to drop off to sleep the heart appears to give a particularly strong beat which startles me. Is this posible and could it be due to some form of concussion, a reaction to some anti inflammation medication I´m taking (Trimethorprim) or could it be psychological on my part subconsciously not wanting to fall asleep after fainting? Can you give me any advice?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I can't say this is normal neither can say that it is pathological. It is a vasovagal reaction , a subconscious fear from blood. It is a stress reaction to fear from blood.
No special treatment needed. Don't look anymore to blood if you know about this reaction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka
