Hi,I am Raju.A.T (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 14 year old daughter has passed out a couple of times. She says she gets hot and feels funny before passing out. She also says everything goes black with gold lines. She is typically out for about 10 to 20 seconds. When she comes back around, she has a bad headache and feels weak. She has been tested for diabetes, low iron, EKG, CT, all have come back normal.
There could be many different possibilities. I would suggest primarily looking further into a cardiac reason. Orthostatic hypotension - low blood pressure when shifting positions - is very often seen in young women like your daughter. It is harmless and very common. I would suggest talking with your GP / Cardiologist about this.
Furthermore, had she been my patient, the next step I would advice would be referring her to Holter Monitoring - which is basically where you monitor EKG over several days in a row. One could also argue that a stress-EKG - an EKG done during running on a treadmill / bicycling could be a value here. Basically, given that she has passed out more than just 1-2 times, I would most definitely advice looking further into the causes of this.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Maria Riechel-Sarup, General & Family Physician
