What Causes Fainting With Loss Of Peripheral Vision?

I fainted once in school because I became queasy during a lecture about the esophagus. I had tunnel vision why sitting down so I got up to escape into the bathroom but I didn t make it. I woke up on my back with my feet flat and knees bent. The don t remember going down but the professor said I calmly sat down on the floor and laid back. Is this common? To not fall but gracefully sit down and lie back while blacking out?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, you need to get yourself examined by a neurologist and get detailed neurological examination especially cerebellar signs, as well as fundus examination, done. EEG may also be needed along with carotid Doppler.

Any need for brain imaging may be discussed with your neurologist. Rarely dizzy spells or some types of epilepsy may present like this. But visual field examination and Visual avoided potentials may also be needed if eye signs persist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
