Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have really fast daydreams, like a million different images or videos are shown to me in a second. These are uncontrollable, and only happen if I daydream for about 25 minutes straight, which is what I like doing. The speed grows faster as I continue into my daydreams. When it gets too fast, I start getting a headache so I stop daydreaming at this time. Why, and how, is this happening?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
It is difficult to provide a definite answer without a thorough evaluation, but your symptoms may be related to a condition known as maladaptive daydreaming. Maladaptive daydreaming is a proposed disorder in which individual experiences vivid and extensive daydreams that can interfere with their ability to carry out daily activities. It is not currently recognized as a formal psychiatric disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), but some mental health professionals believe that it may be a distinct clinical entity.
In addition to maladaptive daydreaming, your headaches could be caused by several factors, including eye strain or tension headaches. Your healthcare may recommend a referral to a mental health professional or a specialist in neurology or ophthalmology depending on the underlying cause of your symptoms.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
