What Causes Fast Heart Beat And Tiredness When Under Stress?

I am 33 yrs old and am under alot of stress right now. I feel fine other than sometimes I feel tired and feel my heart is beating faster than normal. I do not have the symptoms everyday nor can i pattern them. I ride a road and get my heart rate up but sometime just a simple walk around the house has me feeling a little winded.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Though stress can cause both fatigue and increased heart rate, other causes would need to be ruled out first. Because of your symptoms, thyroid disease and anemia would need to be considered. A complete blood count and thyroid function test would be needed along with an ECG to take a look at the heart rate and rhythm.

If no physical cause is found then anxiety may be the cause of your symptoms. Treatment would consist of relaxation techniques, techniques to manage stressful situations and possibly medication if this is needed.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
