Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
On occassion, while urinating my heart rate spikes, my body gets stiff and it feels like I am about to pass out (I have actually fainted once). Once I am finished, things go back to normal. can you help me understan what is happenging and action that I need to take to address it?
This is likely due to vasovagal reflex. Due to excessive straining while urinating there is activation of vagus nerve leading to low BP and all symptoms. Avoid straining too much. Dehydration should be avoided. Get done an ultrasound for prostate if there is difficulty in urinating.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Sagar Makode,
Cardiologist
