What Causes Fatigue And Cough Inspite Of Suffering From Thyroid Disorder?
Hello, I have visited my primary care physician an couple of times and each time shes mentioned my white blood cells being a little off colored like a pinkish color and the number was a little low. SHe said that she didn t know what it meant. I am always fatigued, my eyes look sick, and I have a cough that has been there a while...sounds like a sea otter at times. I have a grossly abnormal thyroid. I take 200 mcg of levothyroxine. Should I be alarmed?
Hyperthyroidism can cause mild decrease in white cell count. Fatigue, feeling of weakness, cough, muscle weakness, body cramps, headache are side effects of Levothyroxine. You are suggested to get repeat T3, T4, TSH done so that the dosage of Levothyroxine can be monitored and side effects get reduced. Since white blood cells are low, your immune system is not working as it should and you are at higher risk for infection.
To support your immune function and white blood cell production is to eat a well-balanced diet with adequate calories to maintain weight. Take adequate protein. You can take acetaminophen, one SOS when pain / headache. Take vitamin B supplements, stay well hydrated and avoid addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
