Hello!
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
ESR stands for
erythrocyte sedimentation rate. It is commonly called a "sed rate."
It is a test that indirectly measures how much inflammation is in the body.
The normal range for ESR in men under 50 years old is less than 15 mm/hr so if you say that your husband ESR is 11 mm/hr that is a normal value.
The normal range for
Hemoglobin in men is 14-18 mg/dl, so your husband hemoglobin is low and he has Anemia.
You don't need to worry to much because viral infections can cause
hemolytic anemia and a
shoulder pain might due to many causes such as viral infection which gives body aches,an inflammatory process in the shoulder (
arthritis)or a muscular spasm.
Try to use over the counter painkillers and antiinflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen,Naproxen, and see their effect for some days.
He need to rest his shoulder because this shoulder pain may due to work.
If he doesn't have other symptoms such as
abdominal pain,diarrhea,vomiting,difficulty eating,cough,
weight loss in very short time I can't see any reason to think about cancer.
I suggest to repeat the blood tests after 2 weeks.
If the anemia still persist and the pain in his shoulder is getting worse than I recommend a total check-up to find out the right cause and to exclude serious conditions.
Hope my answer helped.
Take care.
