What Causes Fatigue, Muscle Weakness And Shortness Of Breath?

I was recently diagnosed by my Endocrinologist with Polymyositis and am currently waiting to see a Rhumatologist. My symptoms are fatigue, muscle weakness and most of all, shortness of breath. I can hardly wait to see the Rhumatologist which was over a month away and currently 3 more weeks. Am I at any serious risk waiting so long?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The underlying issue sounds in relation with auto immune response of the body against polymyositis most likely. There is no serious risk till waiting for Rheumatologist, but I would suggest following for interim period of time
- Consume more liquids to maintain hydration
- Balanced nutritious diet containing essential vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, protein, fat, carbohydrates
- Deep breathing exercises and YOGA
- Walking in fresh air
- Analgesic medications as per the guidance of your doc
- Avoid smoking if consuming

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
