What Causes Fatigue, Tiredness And Excessive Sleep?
I am a 42 year old, female, married, no children and in the past five weeks I have felt great fatigue and tiredness. I was never a nap person but have recently started actually putting myself down for a nap. I exercise 3 to 4 times a week, I consume alcohol 5 times a week, 3-4 drinks. Weight has remained the same though I am trying to lose.
Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Malik's Response
Hello,
The signs and symptoms are highly suggestive of hypothyroidism which causes thyroid hormone deficiency. Symptoms may be fatigue, sleepiness, depression, constipation weight gain, and weakness.
Please, contact your endocrinologist for the diagnosis and treatment. The diagnosis requires blood tests to check thyroid hormone function such as TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) and T4 (thyroxine). Additional lab tests or imaging tests may be ordered by your doctor. If the disease is treated properly prognosis is excellent.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Malik
