Hello and welcome to HCM,
A lump on left ribs can be due to soft tissue swelling or it can be due to bony swelling.
A X-ray of the rib cage is required to know the site of the swelling and its extent.
Besides imaging cytology, an aspiration study of the swelling is required.
In aspiration cytology, a needle is introduced in the lesion, cells are aspirated, spread on a slide and stained with appropriate stain.
The stained cells are studied under microscope and nature of the lesion is determined and thus management is done.

Thanks and take care
