What Causes Feeling Of Something In Eyes And Pain?

I am a 28 year old male with no prior eye troubles. I woke up this morning feeling like there was something in my eye. After trying to wash it out with water, it got more painful and whenever I blink, I feel there's still something in it. I tried eye drops and cold wet rag on eyes. That didn't help. I think I may have scratched the eye as well rubbing it. What are my options?
