What Causes Feeling Of Strange Smell?

Lately I smell an odor randomly that no one else does. It smells like cigarette smoke. I had it happen once before last year but it s lasting much longer this time. I won t smell it & then with nothing else changing it will come on very strong. Then it will just go away again. It happens a few times a day. I am not a smoker & no one in my home is. It makes me sick to my stomach to smell.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Noted your history of smelling a cigarette smoke in spite it is not there.
This happens due to excitation of the sensory system in the brain or the end organs in the nose sending wrong signals to the brain.
There is no specific reason and nothing much to worry about.
This may also occur in cases where you are recovering from flu or upper respiratory tract infection.
There is no specific treatment. So just relax, nothing to worry about.
If you want to make sure, please consult an ENT Surgeon to get nasal endoscopy and get assured.
