What Causes Feeling Of Wetness On The Skin While Treating Sunburn?

My boyfriend is fair skinned and got really bad sunburn. It has been four days and his skin is still really red and burns really bad. He said now he thinks that whenever he touches his back, his hands are wet with some type of fluid. What is this? Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your friend is likely to be suffering from sunburn blisters. Sun allergy can present itself as redness, itching, raised erythema like lesions or in your friend's case, blisters. Treatment is to avoid sunlight. Wear sufficient sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before stepping out in the sun and also cover sun-exposed areas such as forearm. Local application of calamine lotion will soothe the skin and reduce the burning sensation. Popping the blisters should be avoided in order to prevent any infections. Antihistamines can be used in case of severe itching.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
