General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* A 6 days history with cough and sore throat may be indicative of super added bacterial infection over viral infection in a diabetic patient known to be prone for such presentation.

* There are ample number of antibiotics as macrolides, cephalosporins which can be safely consumed with altered kidney function and the scope of the same must be discussed with your treating physician before acting upon.

Till that time, gargles with salted lukewarm water and ginger pills can help some symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
