Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Granddaughter, 11 years old, flu-like symptoms for 1 week (fever, headache, cough, throat). Prednison tablets for throat pain. After having stopped taking prednison because throat pain better: went to school, where she vomited. 2 hours later: feeling weak, almost fainted, had to be carried by her mother. Lungs were checked yesterday: OK. Still coughing. Very weak.
I think the situation is due to the sudden discontinuation of corticosteroid and is a side-effect of their usage. If you abruptly stop taking Prednisone or taper off too quickly, you might experience Prednisone withdrawal symptoms:
1) Severe fatigue 2) Weakness
3) Body aches
4) Joint pain
5) Nausea
5) Loss of appetite
6) Lightheaded
I would suggest steroid administration to be decreased gradually.
Hope this clarifies your concerns. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka , General & Family Physician
