What Causes Fever Along With Pain In The Eyes?

My daughter has had a fever since tuesday morning, 102.8, yesterday was the first day she didn t vomit, she is keeping fluids down and has only eaten small amounts...she has seen her doctor and they said push fluids and give motrin. Her strep culture is not back yet, urine is normal. She is now starting with watery eyes and eye pain and is still running a temp...last temp this afternoon was 101.8. Could she possibly have the flu? I have 3 children and never have they had a fever for this long. Thank you..Melanie

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Flu may cause fever, eye pain, nausea and vomiting, and many other symptoms, so it is likely she is having flu, especially if it is the flu season there at the moment.
On the other hand, flu is a self-limiting infection and generally, patients do recover spontaneously.

It is important for her to drink well, eat frequent small amounts, rest, take Motrin and if she is not better in another 3-4 days or the fever lasts more than 5 days in total she will need another check with her doctor

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
