What Causes Fever Along With Pressure In The Ears?
My son has a a fever and flu like symptoms since last Monday. He has been blowing out the infection but is now getting pressure in his ears and cannot blow out of his nose the past couple of days. Has been using musinex but it’s seemed to have stopped working. What can I do with the pressure in his ears, he can’t even seem to hear . And the congestion is bad again.
As per your description infection in throat and nose is an extended to the ear through the eustachian tube. That's why there is pressure in ear and hearing problems due to fluid in the ear.
If antibiotics have not been tried for flu, we have to start it (amoxicillin or azithromycin - dose according to the age). Further, give him steam inhalation in a closed environment which will help in removing secretion and fluid from middle ear and symptoms will be resolved.
Another procedure - try to blow air with nose and mouth closed. It will help to stretch the retracted tympanic membrane (causing hearing problems)
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Hiren Hirpara
