What Causes Fever And Bleeding From Ear When Diagnosed With Swimmer S Ear?
My 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with swimmers ear Wednesday night. Started her on pain drops and antibiotic drops. She came home yesterday from school with a 101 fever, now down to 99. Pain is better but noticed blood on the cotton ball this morning. It s time for more drops and there s blood on the cotton ball again. Is the blood normal for swimmers ear?
Hello, Thank you for asking at HCM. If your daughter has minor bleeding while using cotton ball in the ear it might be normal with swimmers ear. i would encourage to not try to clean the ears so to minimize the trauma because the skin of the ear canal is inflamed and will be easily broken and bleed. What does not go well with swimmers ear is the fever. It does not generally cause fever. If fever happen or it is due to another cause or if it is due to the swimmers ear it means it is complicated and both cases need a medical visit to have a better understanding and diagnosis. So: 1. do not try to clean the ears, so minimize trauma 2. continue the antibiotic ear drops especially if pain is getting better it means they are working. 3. If bleeding gets worse or fever continues or other complaints are appearing she will need to see a doctor. Hope this is helpful and answers to your question
