What Causes Fever And Diarrhea In A Child After Tonsillectomy?

My son is 10 years old and had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy two days ago. Today he s been having diarrhea and has started a low grade fever. Is this normal? I was warned about headache, earache and possible constipation from the codeine, but not diarrhea.

Hi,

I understand your concerns. You should give him acetaminophen or ibuprofen syrup every 8 hours for fever. Also give an antidiarrheal to stop diarrhea. Let him drink plenty of fluids or oral rehydration solution to avoid rehydration.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Salah Saad Shoman
