Hi Dear,

Welcome to Health Care Magic Team.

Understanding your concern about your grandchildren.

Fever and red gums in a kid of 19 month old could be due to number of mouth problems which are very common in children like gingivostamoatitis, herpetic stomatitis, inflamed papillae, teething, poor dental hygiene and could be because of allergic reaction in mouth.

I would recommend you to give proper importance to her oral hygiene as she is too small to take care of her teeth. Use non fluoridated tooth paste with super soft bristle brush.
Give Ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain, Acyclovir is must to fight against virus causing infection and to counteract fever. Give noncarbonated drinks like milk and let her take a sound sleep. Symptoms will resolve in 7-8 days.

If symptoms keeps on persisting then i would suggest you to visit dentist nearby you and get it diagnosed properly and start treatment accordingly. Need not to worry much, she will get well soon.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
