What Causes Fever, Headaches, Loss Of Appetite And Walking Difficulty?

My son had a high fever 102f and headache was diagnosed with strep due to proximity of other persons with strep. Has been on antibiotics for 24 hours and seems much better -low to no fever but low appetite. This morning woke up and complained he can t walk flatfooted. Only seems to be able to walk on toes. Tried fluids and food with no change yet.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

This indicates limping. Presence of limbing along with fever can suggest septic septic arthritis. Even though this may respond to the same antibiotics, dose and duration is comparatively high.

This is a condition needing urgent evaluation. Kindly get back to your doctor.

Sometimes this happens in an innocuous condition- transient synovitis- but here fever is usually low grade, and happens few days before limping.

Meanwhile give him paracetamol 3 times a day for pain, and minimise limb movement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
