What Causes Fever, Rashes On Chest And Swollen Gums In A Child?

My two year old went to the doctor on Friday because he woke up in the middle of the night with a high fever (103.6) and we were told he has a cold virus. As of today, he still has his fever (103.2 at bedtime)and doesn t have symptoms of a cold. He does have a slight rash on his chest, not much of an appetite, and his gums are bright red and swollen. Any ideas what this could be or any suggestions on what I should do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

From the symptoms,it seems that your child may be having an attack of chicken pox.
I suggest you to consult with a pediatrician.

Meanwhile, you can give him a course of antibiotics like cefpodoxime,
Ibuprofen for fever and inflammation,
lactocalamine lotion to apply on the rashes.

Plenty of oral fliud intake and ORS is advised.
Take care
