Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If headaches are bad than your son needs to be examined by the doctor to rule out meningitis (an infection of the membranes around the brain). If headaches get controlled with pain killers and are on and off than it seems very likely he might have a gastrointestinal infection. If he gets fever, and nausea very likely it is a viral infection and should improve within the next 2-3 days.

It is important to keep him hydrated with oral rehydration solutions that he can access in the pharmacy and use regularly paracetamol and ibuprofen to have control of pain. If no improvement in 2-3 days or any worsening he will need to see his doctor.

If he has symptoms like cough or any other pain or complaint that may lead to infection in other systems than he needs to be seen by a doctor and have through check to examine his skin, lungs, ears, and rule out also more important infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
