What Causes Flat, Painless Brown Bumps On The Face?

hi, my daughter (8yrs old) has developed light brown marks on her face. it started with one and is now three. they also seem to be growing in size. they are completely flat and smooth- almost like a chocolate smudge, bruise or birthmark. not itchy or sore either- she didn t notice they were there until I pointed them out.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thankd for your query . If the mark occur at this age it is not a birth mark . The probable reason for brown mark is hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation can occur due to many reasons like hormonal changes , sun damage and inflammation .

I would suggest you to prevent it from further expansion by applying broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 after every 2-3 hour and apply vitamin C serum at night . You can also use cream containing hydroquinone and teritinoin (under expert advice).

If condition still persist then consult dermatologist for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may take history and perform biopsy (rarechance) . He /she may prescribe cream containing kojic acid or azelaic acid (which are good for long term use ) or antibiotics.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
