What Causes Flu After Receiving A Firmagon Shot?

My husband has prostate cancer and has just received the firmagon shot before surgery which is scheduled for late August (there will be a six month shot administered one month from now. He is feeling today like he has the flu and feels really bad. He got the shot yesterday and our question is whether he is going to feel this bad for the last year.

Hi,

Firmagon has Degarelix. It is a relatively new chemotherapy drug. It does not cause immunosuppression. Hence, flu in your husband is not due to this shot. It might be due to environmental infection.

Tell him to follow these steps for better symptomatic relief-
1. Drink plenty of fluids orally.
2. Do warm water gargles and steam inhalation 4-5 times a day.
3. Avoid hard to chew food. Avoid oily and spicy food.
4. Take Levocetirizine and paracetamol combination twice daily.

Don't worry, he will be alright with all these in 5-7 days.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.
