Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Doc. I am concerned about my sister in law s hypertension which fluctuates between 13/9 and 12/8.5 Sometimes it is 12 or 11/7. She is taking Mycardis 40 once a day, but is easily agitated and yells at home. It is very possible that she has anxiety as anything happening to people around her that she knows, she gets anxious. Here upper back and neck aches are recurring and last longer than usual. This is not got good as she has a baby to care for and has a full time stressful teaching job. I am concerned.
regarding her blood pressure there is nothing to worry about. Anything less than 140mmHg (systolic) and 90mmHg (diastolic) is OK. She's got to focus on correct measurements. Taking her blood pressure when she feels anxious is not appropriate because the blood pressure rises normally in anxiety, pain, etc. The blood pressure fluctuates during the day. This is normal and happens to everybody.
Regarding her agitation, perhaps she should check her thyroid, if she hasn't done so already. If everything is normal then reducing her psychological stress would help her with her hypertension and her life in general.
You can contact me again, if you'd like further information or guidance.
Kind Regards!
